Another Major Beer Brand Faces Boycott Backlash

Molson Coors, the company that makes beers like Miller Lite and Blue Moon, might soon join the likes of Bud Light as a boycott looms. Union workers have been trying to reach a deal with the company regarding fair raise increases. The workers eventually went on strike as the company failed to reach an agreement.

Even after 41 days of striking, the employees were only offered 5 cents extra per hour. The workers were none too pleased considering the fact that Molson Coors made a lot of money last year and still refused to offer fair wage increases. Jeff Padellaro, director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference explained that the company made well over $12B last year in revenue and the 5 cent increase is “spitting in the face” of the hard workers who have helped them rake in that wealth.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is calling for consumers to boycott the popular beer company in solidarity of the workers. The union is also working with lawmakers to try to get more support for the boycott.

Anheuser-Busch had a similar problem last year with its workers, but they wound up settling a better deal for their employees. made a better deal in the end. If people stop buying Molson Coors beer, it could hurt the company during basketball season, since March Madness is a high-sales time of the year.
