The storm is expected to intensify further, with forecasts predicting it could reach Category 4 status within the next 24 hours, with wind speeds of up to 155 mph. The storm’s track has shifted slightly south, and the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula is anticipated to experience dangerous hurricane-force winds and a storm surge of 3 to 5 feet above ground level. A Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch have been issued for the region from Celestun southward to Campeche, and residents are urged to complete their preparations immediately.
There is an increasing threat to the west coast of Florida, where life-threatening storm surge and damaging winds could begin as early as Tuesday night or early Wednesday. Storm Surge and Hurricane Watches are in effect for portions of the Florida coastline, and local officials are advising residents to follow evacuation orders if necessary.
Heavy rainfall is already expected to begin impacting parts of Florida today, well in advance of Milton’s arrival, with more intense rainfall anticipated through Tuesday and Wednesday. This will bring a heightened risk of flash flooding, urban flooding, and river flooding.
As part of the preparations for the storm, Walt Disney World has blocked all theme park reservations for Wednesday, October 9, the day Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall.
This announcement follows the park’s decision to pause all hotel reservations the previous day to focus on preparing for the approaching storm. Orange County, which is home to Walt Disney World, is currently under a State of Emergency as the region braces for potentially severe impacts.
