Alan Ritchson, the lead actor in Prime Video’s Reacher series, is known for sharing his political opinions, even if they don’t align with the show’s conservative fan base. Despite threats from some viewers to stop watching due to Ritchson’s outspokenness, he remains steadfast in his advocacy for police accountability.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ritchson addressed the online backlash among Reacher fans after an old photo of him wearing a shirt advocating for justice for Breonna Taylor resurfaced. He emphasized the need for reform in law enforcement and criticized the lack of accountability for police misconduct.
The National Fraternal Order of Police criticized Ritchson’s comments, labeling him a “useless Hollywood actor” who engages in virtue signaling. In response, Ritchson called out what he saw as emotional immaturity within police leadership and questioned the consequences for interactions between officers and the public.
Ritchson stressed the importance of holding both good and bad cops accountable, highlighting the need for transparency and stricter regulations in law enforcement. He also criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for limiting police oversight, citing concerns about transparency and accountability.
In addition to discussing police accountability, Ritchson expressed frustration with some Christians’ support for former President Donald Trump. He questioned why Christians would rally behind someone he perceives as morally flawed. In an Interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Ritchson says, “Trump is a rapist and a con man, and yet the entire Christian church seems to treat him like he’s their poster child and it’s unreal. I don’t understand it.”
Ritchson’s comments gained attention after being mentioned on Sebastian Gorka’s radio show, where Gorka criticized Ritchson for speaking out on political issues. Many conservatives expressed outrage and threatened to boycott the Reacher series.
Despite the backlash, Ritchson received support from those who appreciated his willingness to speak out. The Reacher series, based on Lee Child’s books, has enjoyed success on Amazon.
In the show, Ritchson portrays Jack Reacher, an ex-military cop turned vigilante who seeks justice outside the law. The series follows Reacher’s adventures as he confronts various injustices.
Ritchson’s outspokenness on political and social issues has sparked debate but hasn’t diminished the television show’s popularity.
