Democrat Colin Allred narrowly trailing Ted Cruz in Texas’ U.S. Senate Race

Democratic Representative Colin Allred is in a close race with Republican Senator Ted Cruz in Texas. A new poll shows Allred narrowly trailing Cruz, making the race highly competitive.

Ted Cruz was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012 and is known for his strong conservative views. He often draws criticism from Democrats for his stance on key issues.

Colin Allred, a former NFL player, has served as a U.S. Representative since 2019. He has raised nearly $42 million for his Senate campaign, slightly outpacing Cruz’s $40 million.

Despite the tight polling, Cruz consistently leads in most surveys. The Cook Political Report currently predicts the seat will likely stay in Republican hands.

Recent polling from Emerson College and The Hill shows Cruz leading Allred by 4 points, which is within the margin of error. Cruz holds 48 percent support while Allred has 44 percent, with 8 percent of voters still undecided.

Allred holds a strong lead among minority and younger voters in Texas. However, Cruz leads by a wide margin with white voters and those over 50.

A poll from Clean and Prosperous America PAC showed Cruz ahead by only 2 points. This suggests the race could still tighten as the election approaches.

If Allred wins, he would become the first Democrat to represent Texas in the Senate since 1993. Cruz’s last election in 2018 was also close, with him winning by just 2.6 percent.
