Trump Blames Biden for Potential TikTok Ban, After Trying And Failing To Ban It Himself

Former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Monday to blame President Joe Biden for potential restrictions on the popular social media app TikTok. This comes after the House of Representatives passed legislation that would ban TikTok within a year if its parent company, ByteDance, does not sell the app.

Trump’s post accused Biden of trying to shut down TikTok to help Facebook become more powerful and potentially interfere in elections against Republicans. “Crooked Joe Biden is responsible for banning TikTok,” Trump wrote. “He is the one pushing it to close, and doing it to help his friends over at Facebook become richer and more dominant.”

Despite Trump’s previous efforts to ban TikTok during his presidency through an executive order, which was later blocked in court, he has recently reversed his stance on the issue.

In March, Trump claimed that a TikTok ban would only benefit Facebook, which he has frequently criticized.

The House bill will now head to the Senate for consideration. Biden has previously stated that he would sign such legislation if it reaches his desk.

Trump’s post also called the effort to ban TikTok “election interference,” urging young people and others to remember this on Election Day.

A majority of House Republicans, including some Trump allies, supported the bill during Saturday’s vote.
